Sense and Sensibilities is a novel written by Jane Austen about two sisters named Marianne and Elinor. Elinor represents "Sense" or the thoughtfulness to life's situations. Marianne represents "Sensibility" or the emotional reactions to life. The novel displayed how the sisters bloomed into adulthood. It showed that adulthood is when idealistic hopes transition to realistic plans. Adulthood is when balance between the opposing temperaments "Sense" and "Sensibilities" is achieved.
