Hello!

When a number is in scientific notation, it is a number 1-10 multiplied by 10 to a power. In this number, the first number we see besides zero is 5. We take all of the numbers after it into a decimal of 5. This gives us 5.03. To get it to 0.00503, we have to move the decimal to the left three times. Since we move it to the left, our exponent is negative.

This leaves us with 5.03(10^-3)

I hope this helps!
