Gatsby's honesty/honest intentions begin to fade as Nick grows to know him more. Although Nick faithfully believes Gatsby's stories of glory and wealth, time and again the truth of Gatsby's past surfaces. When Tom finally confronts Gatsby near the end of the novel, everything shatters. Nick still tries to believe Gatsby's good wills, but the illusion has been unmasked.
