Why is it incorrect to describe the moon as luminous?

By definition, luminosity is the ability of an object to give off light. In other words, it should shine of its own accord.

Moon is non-luminous because it produces light out of its reflection from the sun. The sun radiates its light which is reflected to the earth through the moon.
