Lee's Army failed to retaliate after the Union attack during the Wilderness Campaign because the soldiers were very tired from the fighting in the Wilderness. The result of this is that they were defeated in the war and most of its soldiers were killed.

Lee's Army failed to retaliate after the Union attack during the Wilderness Campaign because the soldiers were exhausted from the fighting in the Wilderness without breaking. Due to this exhaustion, the army failed to retaliate. Most of the soldiers also burnt to death during the battle.
