The federal government has actually addressed this unlawful internment of Japanese American citizens through the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. This law, signed by President Ronald Reagan, compensated 100,000 people who were either forced into internment camps or were descendants of those who were put in these camps. Along with this, the federal government formally apologized to Japanese-American citizens for their actions.

In the future, the federal government can prevent a mistake like this by outlawing the unlawful internment of citizens during a time of war.
