This was mostly because the Soviets liberated Eastern Europe from the Nazis. As they were going through Europe and liberating it on its way to Germany, they helped local leftist rebel groups and put them in power which meant that when the Germans fell that the governments of Eastern European countries would keep supporting the Soviets.
