Eukaryotic DNA is located in the nucleus, and its message reaches the ribosome via the nuclear pores.
Since the genetic information (DNA) is transcribed into mRNA (transcription) in the nucleus, and protein synthesis (translation) takes place in the cytoplasm, the mRNA has to exit the nucleus to the cytoplasm through the channels on the membrane of the nucleus, called the nuclear pore complex (NPC). The mRNA in complex with export proteins attaches to export receptors and the whole complex is translocated through the nuclear pore complex.
