The bird and the snake would both be classified as heterotrophs.

Heterotrophs are organisms that cannot synthesize their own food by themselves but they require an external supply of energy in the form of food such as plant or animal matter for their growth, reproduction and other biological functions. The bird and the snake are heterotrophs. In the food chain in an ecosystem, the heterotrophs are not the producers but are usually the secondary and tertiary consumers.
