In the end, the television lead to the downfall of Joseph McCarthy and the loss of his political/social power.

One of the reasons why the TV lead to this downfall was because of the Army-McCarthy hearings. This televised event saw Joseph McCarthy accuse several individuals in the US military of being communist/having ties to the communist Soviet Union. What the American public found out during these hearings was that McCarthy had no significant evidence to support his claims. After this, citizens started to question his tactics and accusations. This resulted in a huge loss of credibility for McCarthy.
