I believe the answer is: clinicians will have to rate the degree of dysfunctioning caused by each person's traits in diagnosing personality disorders.

The dsm is filled with step by step measurement that psychologist could use in the process of determining the type of personality disorders that each patients have.
But many different psychological disorder display similar characteristics, clinicians will have to come up with scales in order to measure the severity of the characteristic.
