y = x^2 - 8.

It is not a linear equation.

Reason:

The power of the equation is more than one or its power is 2.

As we know that linear equation has power one on its variable so, it can't be considered as linear equation. Example of linear equation is; y= 2x+8. where "X" variable has only "1" power.

Therefore, the equation is not a linear equation.
