The Frosty Ice-Cream Shop sells sundaes

for $2 and banana splits for $3. On a hot
summer day, the shop sold 8 more sundaes
than banana splits and made $156. Which
system of equations could be used to find the
number of sundaes, s, and banana splits, b,
that the shop sold that day?

Answer:b = # banana splits

s = # sundaes

s = b + 8

2s + 3b = 156

replace s with b+8

2(b+8) + 3b = 156

Solve this for b to find the number

of banana splits. Then add 8 to

that to find the number of sundaes.
