The governments' response to anti war sentiments was passing Espionage and sedition Acts and these acts used to punished people if they Spoke negatively about the government during the time of the war, tried to interfere with the military dratf and promoted the success of America's enemy's during the time of this war. The acts stated by the government limited the first amendment of the rights of freedom of speech during World War I and it was a legal conflict between the citizens and the government.
