Austin is raising money for a school trip by selling fruit snacks and candy bars. The price of each fruit snack is $1 and the price of each candy bar is $2. Yesterday Austin made $32 and he sold twice as many fruit snacks as candy bars. Determine the number of fruit snacks sold and the number of candy bars sold.

Explanation:

The price of each fruit snack is $1 and the price of each candy bar is $2.

Let yesterday Austin sold x number of fruit snacks and y number of candy bars.

Now, given that, yesterday Austin made $32 and he sold twice as many fruit snacks as candy bars.

So, x = 2y ........ (1)

And, x + 2y = 32 .......... (2)

Now, solving equations (1) and (2) we get, 4y = 32

y = 8

And from equation (1) we get,

x = 2y = 16

Therefore, 16 number of fruit snacks and 8 number of candy bars were sold. (Answer)
