Free takes $20 to the arcade and it costs $2 for every game he plays. Fred needs to leave the arcade with $5.00 to pay for lunch, what is the most number of games he can play?

Fred can play maximum of 7 games.

Explanation:

Money had with Fred = $20

Cost for each game = $2

Fred needs to leave the arcade with $5.00 to pay for lunch.

Money left with Fred = $20 - $5.00 = $15

Let the number of games be x.

Hence Number of games Fred can play can be calculated as;

Cost for each game multiplied number of games should be less than or equal to Money left with Fred

Hence equation can be framed as;


2x\leq 15\\\\x\leq (15)/(2)\\\\x\leq 7.5

From above we can say number of games fred can play is 7.5 but number of games cannot be in point hence maximum of 7 games he can play.

Hence Fred can play maximum of 7 games.
