The women were at home working hard and fighting for the right to vote, African Americans moved North for Industrial jobs, the ones serving were discriminated against, Conscientious Objectors such as Alvin C. York believed it was against their religion to go out and kill people so they abstained (Alvin eventually went to war so he was only an objector for some time).
