Sadaf has an ulcer of her large intestine that has perforated, meaning that it has developed a hole that has gone through all tissue layers. A major concern with large intestine perforation is peritonitis, or infection of the peritoneal fluid. Why is this a particular concern with the large intestine?

Answer&Explanation:

Large intestine functions is to retain water and electrolyte,it also retain fecal matter whilst it ferment the part of the food that did not digest using bacteria. If the large intestine now get infected and have holes, these fermenting bacterial which are found here will leak to other organs leading to infections such as sepsis
