Why would the ships from Africa be called death traps?

The rough sailing waters of the Atlantic Ocean caused many shipwrecks.
The Africans slaves traveling on the ship might be killed when they reached America.
The ships were unsafe since they were operated by seedy businessmen.
The conditions on the ships were deplorable.

The conditions on the ships were deplorable. Tightly packed, very small rations of food, limited to no drinking water, no bathroom, rats, diseases, and torture. These are just some of the MANY conditions that Africans had to deal with on the slave ships to America.

I hope this helps!
