The perimeter of a rectangle is 61 feet. The length is 5 more than twice the width. What is the length and width?

Length = 22 feet Width= 8.5 feet

Explanation:

Perimeter= 61

Let Width= x

Length= 2x+5

Perimeter= 2l + 2w

61= 2(2x+5) + 2x

61 = 2(2x+5+x)

61/2 = 3x+5

30.5 -5 = 3x

25.5 = 3x

25.5/3 =x

x= 8.5

Hence, width = 8.5 feet

Then, the length = 2x+5 = 2(8.5) +5 = 22 feet
