How did most colonies in the southern make a living

Answer:

Most colonies in the south of the US had a suitable farming climate, as well as warm - hot weather, which allowed for a large range of crops to be grown, from cash crops (tobacco, cotton, etc.) to edibles. Most essentially owned pieces of lands to farm on.
