Answer:

The midpoint of a line segment with ending points at (0,-8) (-8,0) is (-4, -4)

Solution:

Given that the points are (0, -8) and (-8, 0)

we have to find the midpoint of the line segment.Midpoint is found by finding the values of "x" and "y" of the midpoint.

Using the formula for midpoint of "x" and "y":

For "x":
(x_(1)+x_(2))/(2) --- eqn 1

For "y":
(y_(1)+y_(2))/(2) ---- eqn 2

For the points (0, -8) and (-8, 0) we get
x_(1)=0 ; y_(1) = -8 ; x_(2) = -8 ; y_(2)=0

By substituting the values in equation 1, we get the "x" co-ordinate of midpoint

=(0-8)/(2)=(-8)/(2)=-4

hence the "x" co-ordinate of midpoint is "-4"

By substituting the values in equation 2, we get the "y" co-ordinate of midpoint

=(-8+0)/(2)=(-8)/(2)=-4

hence the "y" co-ordinate of midpoint is "-4"

hence the midpoint of the line segment is (-4, -4)
