I will do my best to answer even though there are no answer choices...

The whole point of newspapers is to be read. If no one is reading their newspapers, they make no money.

Therefor, it is important for the newspaper company to understand the background information known so that they can sell their newspapers to readers. If the readers do not understand the newspaper, they will be less likely to buy it because they will not find it interesting.
