William Penn (1644-1718) received the Royal Charter from the King of England to found the colony of Pennsylvania in the North America territory. The King was in debt hin Penn's father and he decided to give William the royal charter. As a Quaker, he had some religious beliefs that were not so well accepted in England. Indeed, he was arrested for preaching illegally, and this situation helped him decide to go to the Americas. He founded the colony of Pennsylvania in 1682.
