m = (y₂ - y₁ ) / (x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 3, 4) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (0, - 2) ← 2 points on the line

m =
(-2-4)/(0+3) =
(-6)/(3) = - 2

• Parallel lines have equal slopes, hence slope of parallel line = - 2, thus

y = - 2x + c ← partial equation of parallel line

To find c substitute (- 5, 2) into the partial equation

2 = 10 + c ⇒ c = 2 - 10 = - 8
