on adding 3 on both the sides of the equation we have:


2x=5+3\\\\2x=8\\\\x=(8)/(2)\\\\x=4

Now, on putting the value of x into equation (2) we have:


y=4-3\\\\y=1

Hence, the solution is unique (one solution )
