3x=4x+17

-1x=17
(divide the -1 out)

x=-17

+7 +7

3x=4x+17

Subtract 4x from both sides & simplify

3x=4x+17

-4x -4x

-x=17

Divide both sides by -1 & simplify


(-x)/(-1) =(-17)/(-1)


x=-17
