What was a key difference between period of the Renaissance in Europe and the Middle Ages?

Renaissance literally means awakening or rebirth. It was a European cultural movement between the 14th and the 16th centuries. The Middle Ages was a period from the 5th to 16th centuries. A very prominent difference between the Renaissance and Middle Ages is the art.
