Shakespeare was mainly influenced by other authors, even though some of his work was wholly original. Some of his favorites and ones who influenced him a lot were probably Geoffery Chaucer, who was one of England's finest poets, and Plutarch, who was a biographer and philosopher. But his main influence was The Bible. He makes many biblical references in his plays, especially Macbeth.
