These countries had the liberty to watch the news and different ideas were publicly debated.

On the contrary, Communist countries were loyal to Moscow, they recieved a complex and intrinticate system of public repression for political oppositors and ensured that the interests of the Soviet Union would me manipulated throught the state, which often included violent means and controlling the information available to the public in general.
