The best way to solve something like this is to actually put it on a graphing program like Desmos. I have included that for you on both graphs. You should always graph whatever quadratic you are given even if it gives bizarre answers or no answer at all. At least the graph will tell you if you are close. For example

The middle graph is y = 3x^2 + 8x - 20 This gives you a fractional solution which you will soon learn how to do. The graph will tell you if you are doing it correctly. The graph is deep purple. It is on the graph on the right.

Now try y = x^2 + 4x + 14 which does not give any solution at all. The graph is black. It is on the graph on the rights.
