how did us involvment in the korean war contribute to the fears americans had about the communist threat during the cold war

The US involvement in the Korean War showed the US public that Communism really is trying to expand and infringe on the Democratic World, and that sooner or later it would affect the US too (which did occur, but not in a military sense). This led to increased involvement of the US to trying to stop communism from spreading.
