My suspicions gnawed at my heart. Could Grayson have committed such a dreadful deed? Could he have exposed the secret with wanton disregard for my feelings? Minor evidence pointed to his guilt, but I would not accuse him until I knew the whole truth.

Either Subdued or Dismal. The voice is sad and gloomy, but also seems to be reflecting on what happend in sadness.
