John D. Rockefeller was president and main shareholder of the Standard Oil Co. Inc., besides having been one its founders. In a short time the company grew exponentially, thanks to its secret agreements with the railway companies to lower transport rates. In contrast, and due to its enormous production capacity. Standard Oil offered railway companies an uniform and constant flow, which allowed them to reduce operating costs. This commercial strategy allowed the price of oil and its derivatives to drop drastically in a short time, benefiting the final consumers.
