we know that


x=y+3


y=x-3 -----> equation A

Applying the Pythagoras Theorem to find the distance (hypotenuse in a right triangle)


\sqrt{x^(2) +y^(2)}=x+3 -----> equation B

substitute equation A in equation B and solve for x


\sqrt{x^(2) +(x-3)^(2)}=x+3

squared both sides


{x^(2) +(x-3)^(2)}=(x+3)^(2)


x^(2) +x^(2)-6x+9=x^(2)+6x+9


x^(2) -12x=0 -----> equation that represent the situation
