Tricia says that she can do nothing about her body type because it is an inherited condition. Her mother is overfat, as are her two brothers. Do you agree with your friend’s statement? Explain.

No doubt, genetics do a lot in figuring our bodies. A person can inherit a body structure from his/her paternal or maternal sides. This is very much possible and normal.

But at the same time, this is not correct to say that we cannot do anything about it. A person can always shed extra pounds from his/her body by adopting a healthy life style and involving in more physical activities. Indeed a person cannot do anything if he has a broad structure inherited from the family, but can always reduce those extra pounds from that broad structure.

Certainly, quite often, if there are cases of obesity, in the mother or father, a grandmother or an aunt ... One might think that there is a family genetic predisposition to overweight, as it can be due to the family environment.

But this is not inevitable, it is always possible to lose weight by adapting a diet with sports to create a caloric deficit, but it will be more difficult to succeed because of genetic and environmental constraints.
