In literature, a subject, also referred as topic, is the category or general area of interest of a literature work, be it a poem, novel, short story, essay, and others. Some examples of subjects are hate, love, friendship, dreams, justice, and lies. Likewise, one single work often has more than one subject, for example, some of the subjects that the famous novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee includes are moral, innocence, justice, social discrimination and racial prejudice.
