Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhbhai Patel stood strongly against linguisticdivisions. They believed the nation hadjust been torn apart by religious differences and that the way forward wasto promote secular ideas of peace and economic development. Multicultural, multilingual states would help build a united India.
