It is a noun definition: the study of the way in which certain body movements and gestures serve as a form of nonverbal communication (such as blushes, shrugs, or eye movement)

The word 'kinesics' is used to refer to the interpretation of the body movement of a person when he/she is communicating with another person.

Kinesics is the study of body movement, which includes gestures, posture and facial expressions. Furthermore, body movement is a form of nonverbal language. The term 'kinesics' was first used by Ray Birdwhistell in 1952 and he even wrote a book called Kinesics and Context where he developed his ideas about kinesics. One of the most important ideas is that body movement conveys as much information as forms of verbal communication do.
