Answer: -21 / 2

Explanation:

First subtract 5 from both sices

5 - 2 (x + 8) - 5 = 14 - 5

-2 (x + 6) = 9

Then divide both sides by -2

-2 (x + 6) / -2 = 9 / -2

x + 6 = -9 / 2

Finally subtract 6 from both sides

x + 6 - 6 = -9 / 2 - 6

And you’re left with - 21 / 2
