There are a few ways to go about doing this problem. One method would to divide the shape into two triangles and a rectangle and then find the area of those shapes and then add them all up. I am not going to do that because that is the long way to solve this problem.

With that said, you can use the trapezoid formula


A = h*(b1 + b2)/(2)

b1 = 3

b2 = 11

h = 9

Plugin the data into our model and do the math.


A = h*(b1 + b2)/(2)


A = 9*(3 + 11)/(2)


A = 9*(14)/(2)


A = 9 * 7


A = 63 \ yd^2
