When the tectonic plates push together, pull apart, or slide, they create energy that is released in the form of seismic waves. These waves create movement in the rocky portion, causing an earthquake.
Example:
San Andreas Fault is a transform boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate. It is located in California, USA.
