In order to finish the order on time the factory was supposed to produce 70 items daily. After hiring three more people they were able to produce 10 more details daily, and completed the order five days ahead of the schedule. How many days was the order supposed to take originally?

Original number of days were 40.

Explanation:

We know that,

The factory produced 70 items in one day.

So, items produced in 'x' number of days =
70x

After hiring 3 more people, the factory produced 10 more items daily and completed the work 5 days before the schedule.

That is, the factory produced 80 items in one day.

Then, items produced in 'x-5' number of days =
80(x-5)

So, we get,


70x=80(x-5)

i.e.
70x=80x-400

i.e.
10x=400

i.e. x= 40.

Hence, the number of days to complete the work originally were 40.
