Judicial Review refers to the doctrine first established in Marbury v. Madison that the Supreme Court, and all Federal Courts, have the duty and obligation to review the actions of the executive and legislative branches to determine whether they have acted within the bounds of their constitutional power.
It is so important as it is the doctrine that gives the Supreme Court the power to be a co-equal branch.
