In the US government system, we have three branches of government as proposed in the Constitution: legislative, judicial, and executive.

Each branch limits the other's powers through a system of checks and balances. In order to prevent one branch from having too much power, checks and balances have to be enforced so that one branch does not have too much power. Each branch has a different role: the legislative branch writes the laws, the judicial branch determines the constitutionality of laws, and the executive branch enforces the laws.

Each branch of government has important roles and the power is balanced through a system of checks and balances.
