Calicut is a city located in the region of Kerala, India. During the middle ages, the place became known as the "City of Spices" due to the high level of trade of this good.

In 1498, the Portugues Explorer Vasco Da Gama landed in Calicut. This was the starting for the creation of a trade route for spices between Portugal and India. A Portuguese factory and a fort were built here as a result of the existing trade.
