Reread paragraph 4. What is James's point of view about Nate at this point in the story?

One of the men in line, Nate, said, "well, it ain't a gun, but you can still make it go boom!" All the other men, even the supply officer, faintly shouted with laughter. Nate was one of my tent mates, and he always had an audience for his jokes. Now I imagines myself knocking the teeth out of his stupid grin.

A. He envies Nate for being a grown man.
B. He thinks Nate is too stupid to care about.
C. He resents Nate for being popular.
D. He thinks Nate is cruel.
