On March 1, 1781 during the second Continental congress the Articles of Confederation were ratified and signed. Silas Deane was chosen by Connecticut General Assembly to represent their interests and assumed one important role in the matter of America Independence, he then summed up the reasons for the Articles of Confederation with this statement:

"United we stand, divided we fall."
