Why do you think the competitive nature of the Greeks was so important for their success as people and culture?

They believed it would make their lives better while living to work as hard as possible and so the gods would take care of them after death.

because they invented the Olympics which was a challenge of strength and courage in their social structure. if the male population could not achieve this they were unworthy to marry and produce offspring..
