okay so here's how i think you solve it


both triangles have the same ratio, so set it as 3/4.5 (the smaller triangle) is equal to X/13.5 (the 9 added to the 4.5)

multiply 13.5/1 on both sides to get x alone

13.5 3
-------- x ------- = x x= 9
1 4.5
